ANTHOLOGY PROJECT

The ANThology Project was presented in the public selection process by Eletrobras at the end of 2021, and was selected and contracted by Furnas S.A. in December 2021. In this project, we will continue the reintroduction of tapirs, in partnership with the NGO Refauna in the Três Picos State Park and Regua, where two more tapirs were introduced.

The education, communication and community awareness program aims to inform residents and rural producers in the surrounding area about the reintroduction of tapirs, inviting them to be partners in this initiative to establish a viable population of the species. Our goal is to create links between the reintroduction project and the surrounding community and help prevent conflicts, roadkill and hunting.

The new feature is that 36 young students from the community were selected and trained to monitor the fauna. The training included techniques for observing wildlife, handling camera traps, radio telemetry, identifying tracks, among other activities, and will be taught by the project team and consultants. These young people became multipliers of information about the importance of reintroducing native fauna into areas of the Atlantic Forest and how to live harmoniously with wildlife.

The Anthology project team also developed recreational and educational activities in the municipal schools of Cachoeiras de Macacu, with games, comic and activities books. This material was also made available in digital format and shared on the social media of the Instituto de Ação Socioambiental (Instituto ASA).
