Anthology Project Environmental Photography Contest

Students in the Cachoeiras de Macacu education network mobilized for the Photography Contest and generated great engagement on social media, with almost 20,000 comments.

The Environmental Photography Contest was created by the Instituto de Ação Socioambiental - ASA as part of the Anthology project, in partnership with the Education and Environment Departments of Cachoeiras de Macacu. The goal was to stimulate reflections on the relationship between students and their environment, through the language of photography. Our intention was to motivate young people to reflect on their relationship with the environment in which they live.

The Contest was a success! There were 19 participating schools and the engagement and reach of the posts far exceeded expectations. The posts received almost 20,000 votes, including on Facebook and Instagram.

The coordinator of the Anthology project, Joana Macedo, expressed her gratitude to all the partner schools that made the competition shine:

"We were very happy with the schools' engagement and the children's photographic talent, which should be encouraged. We are very grateful to all the partners who supported us in making the photography competition possible, and a special thanks goes to the children who sent beautiful images of the natural riches of Cachoeiras de Macacu."

The date to announce the results could not have been more special: Tree Day. The award ceremony took place at Parque da Cidade/APA da Bacia do rio Macacu. Around 50 people were present, including students, teachers, school principals and representatives of the partner departments. The Municipal Secretary of Education, Osório Luís and the APA Manager, Hugo Guida Miranda, also participated in the closing ceremony.

The winners were: 1st place: E. M. Castália - Student Geovanna Klen da Silva; 2nd place: Samelinha Education System - Student Malu Gomes Peixoto and 3rd place: E. M. Sete de Setembro - Student Sophia Nunes Costa Gonçalves.

The prizes for the first place winners, which were raffled off on the occasion, were donated by the partners and by local merchants and producers:

Jotacell Store, Neca Modas; Tatiana Horta, Pousada Água Fresca and Rede Ecológica de Itaboraí
