MACACU ACTION PROJECT

Ação Macacu is a project carried out by Ação Socioambiental and financed by the Florestas do Amanhã Program, an initiative of the State Government of Rio de Janeiro, led by the State Secretariat for the Environment and Sustainability (SEAS) with operational management by the Brazilian Biodiversity Fund (FUNBIO). Ação Macacu's main objective is to restore 50 hectares in the municipality of Cachoeiras de Macacu, in areas located in important micro-basins contributing to the Guapi-Macacu basin. These intervention areas are made available by partner rural property owners.

Ação Socioambiental understands that projects such as Ação Macacu converge with important development initiatives that are related to the local forest restoration chain. Therefore, Ação Macacu foresees strengthening through some measures, namely: (i) insertion of community members into the formal market, with these collaborators being part of the technical team; (ii) training and qualification of 40 local residents in nursery work and seed collection, essential skills for the supply of the main inputs for forest restoration, seeds and seedlings; (iii) provision of the service of registering the environmental registry in rural properties, to comply with the environmental adaptation process.
